5 Chiropractic Myths That Simply Aren't True

Written By John J. Giovanelli, D.C., P.C. on September 24, 2018

Many people view chiropractic care with an air of caution.

Whether it’s scrutiny about medical experience, pricing, or the perceived dangers, the truth is that people are skeptical because they don’t understand how it works.

So let’s break down the barriers.

Since 1988, John J. Giovanelli has sought to help his patients engage in a healthy lifestyle. There are many roads to the path of wellness, and chiropractic care is one of them.

Through research and experience, we’ll show you why these five common chiropractic myths are just that. Myths.

5 Myths About Chiropractors and Chiropractic Care

Myth #1: It’s Expensive

A reason some people may think chiropractic care is expensive is because justifying a large bill for surgery seems more valid. However, most chiropractic care is not expensive at all.

In fact, chiropractors accept most insurances, even Medicare.

Chiropractors aim to prevent serious injuries with a natural alternative. This will not only save you more money on medication for treating your pain, but will also help you down the line when you don’t have to pay for major medical expenses.

Myth #2: It’s for Adults Only

Most chiropractors offer safe and effective preventative care for infants, toddlers and children. Scheduling regular visits for your children will help their spine develop normally and keep them active.

Myth #3: Chiropractors Have Less Education Than Doctors

Though chiropractors are not considered medical doctors, this does not diminish their role as professionals in the health industry.

All chiropractors must go through four years of undergrad as well as 4+ years of studies in a graduate program. These 8+ years also coincide with over 4,000 hours of instructional hours. Chiropractors also pass state and national board certifications and get their license before even practicing.

Myth #4: Chiropractic Care Hurts

Chiropractors manipulate the spine to allow your body to function better. This does not always involve bone cracking that many people associate it with.

A chiropractor’s main priority is to alleviate pain for their patients. If their methods were painful or dangerous, there is no way that an estimated 35 million Americans would seek out chiropractors to treat their pain every year.

Myth #5: Once You Visit a Chiropractor, You Have to Keep Going

There is no chiropractor that will force you to repeatedly visit for care. Each patient plan corresponds with their individual needs. While continued care can increase the health of your spine, it is always a patient’s choice whether or not they want to keep visiting.
